Research Assistant Mustafa Fenerci from Cappadocia University Contributes to AI-Based Forecasting Models in the KAY-SAT Project
A research assistant from the Faculty of Computer and Information Technologies at Cappadocia University, Mustafa Fenerci, is a member of the research team of KAY-SAT, Türkiye’s first indigenous meteorological satellite project. Within the project, Fenerci contributes to the development of artificial intelligence-based data analysis and forecasting models using satellite data.
A cooperation protocol for the KAY-SAT project was signed at the Melikgazi Municipality Council Hall as part of a collaboration between Melikgazi Municipality and Erciyes University. Considered a significant milestone in Türkiye’s indigenous satellite technologies, the project aims to develop domestic meteorological observation and early warning systems.
Designed to strengthen preparedness for climate change-related natural hazards, KAY-SAT will utilise satellite-derived data to improve meteorological forecasting processes. The data generated through the project are expected to enhance the prediction of severe weather events such as heavy rainfall, strong winds, and hail, contributing to more effective early warning systems.
As part of the project, Mustafa Fenerci supports the artificial intelligence component by contributing to the analysis of satellite data and the development of predictive models.
Fenerci’s involvement in the KAY-SAT project highlights the contribution of Cappadocia University’s academic expertise to interdisciplinary research, technological innovation, and the development of solutions that support climate resilience and disaster preparedness.
