A workshop held as part of the Osmaniye Tourism Master Plan, prepared with the academic contributions of Cappadocia University, brought together provincial officials, public institutions, and tourism stakeholders. Organised to explore Osmaniye’s natural, historical, and cultural assets from a tourism perspective, the Osmaniye Tourism Master Plan Workshop was held with the participation of Osmaniye Governor Mehmet Fatih Serdengeçti. The workshop was also attended by Acting Mayor M. Burçin Çalışkan, district governors, representatives of public institutions, and other relevant stakeholders.
During the programme, participants evaluated Osmaniye’s tourism strengths, areas for improvement, and long-term development priorities. The province’s historical heritage—particularly Karatepe-Aslantaş and the Ancient City of Kastabala—was examined alongside its highland tourism potential, castles, local cuisine, and traditional crafts within a comprehensive tourism framework.
The workshop focused on strategic priorities such as positioning Osmaniye as a more visible, accessible, and high-quality tourism destination, developing smart tourism routes, improving service standards, strengthening promotional activities, and transforming local cultural assets into authentic tourism experiences. Participants also emphasised the importance of preserving the province’s heritage for future generations and planning tourism activities in a way that supports sustainable local development.
Representing Cappadocia University, Prof. Dr. Bilgehan Gülcan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Bahar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halil Burak Sakal, Lecturer Dr. Avşin Ayhan, and Research Assistant Fatıma Tüzzehra Albayrak contributed to discussions on shaping the Osmaniye Tourism Master Plan through field research, stakeholder input, and academic evaluation.
The findings of the workshop will serve as the foundation for the next stages of the Osmaniye Tourism Master Plan. Supported by the academic expertise of Cappadocia University, the planning process aims to contribute to the development of a sustainable, high-quality, and practical tourism model for Osmaniye.
