Our university participated in the GSTC 2024 Global Conference, hosted by Visit Sweden, where sustainable and environmentally friendly tourism solutions from around the world were discussed. At this important event of GSTC, of which our university is an institutional member, our institution was represented by our Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Ali Karasar, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halil Burak Sakal, Director of the Center for Applied and Research in Social and Strategic Studies. The conference was also attended by representatives from the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Turkey Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA).
During the conference, current trends and developments in sustainable tourism were discussed, and TGA Deputy General Manager Dr. Elif Balcı Fisunoğlu presented Turkey’s progress in the Sustainable Tourism Program. Turkey’s global leadership position achieved through this program attracted significant interest from many participating countries. The Sustainable Tourism Attraction Center Criteria, pioneered by our university, and the recently announced MICE Criteria, also developed under our university’s leadership with an international team, were shared with participants in various workshops and sessions.
On the sidelines of the conference, our Rector held meetings with GSTC CEO Randy Durband and Dr. Mihee Kang to discuss institutional research, educational collaborations, and projects.
