Throughout history, beauty has been used as a tool of pressure for women. Even today, women are still forced to conform to certain molds; they are trapped in the perception of “ideal beauty” imposed by social norms, fashion, and the media. So, how can we break these molds?

At Cappadocia University, on Monday, March 10, we are artistically opposing the objectification of women and the pressure of beauty! In this event themed “Women and Identity Through the Faces Painted by Past and Present” and “Can You See My Voice?”, we are highlighting not our faces, but our identities, selves, and the color of our inner voices.

Event Flow:

– 15:00–16:00: Panel, “Women and Identity Through the Faces Painted by Past and Present”

Moderator: Prof. Dr. Ayşe Çakır İlhan

– 15:15–15:30: Lecturer Dr. Tolga Ulusoy, “Women’s Voice and Image in the Historical Process”

– 15:30–15:45: Asst. Prof. Dr. Şükran Ünser, “Perception of Female Beauty in Medieval and Contemporary Visual Culture”

– 15:45–16:00: Lecturer Halil İldeniz, “Traces of Female Identity: From Stereotypes to Facial Expression”

  • 16:15–17:00: Artistic Workshops “Can You See My Voice?”

Standardized Beauty Masks
Pre-drawn ideal beauty patterns (mouth, nose, eyes, eyebrows, etc.) will be applied to transparent masks. Coming together with identical, soulless faces, we will question the uniformity of imposed beauty standards.

Reflecting Identity with Symbols
We will recognize meaningful motifs inspired by art history and cultural heritage, and apply temporary tattoos to our faces as a way of expressing our own identities. This will be a personal rebellion against the standardized notion of beauty.

In these workshops, our primary goal is to question the mindset that sees women as mere physical objects and to reflect on our identities.
