Let’s Turn Off the Lights for Earth Day on March 23

The Earth Day movement, which started in 2007 with the initiative of WWF-World Wide Fund for Nature, was known for its “lights out” action, where people around the world turn off their lights to symbolically show support for the planet and draw attention to environmental issues.

This year, Earth Day invites everyone to show symbolic support by turning off the lights again and taking an hour to do something that will have a positive impact on the planet.

You can dedicate one hour to a walk or a trip where you observe and connect with the natural environment. Alternatively, you can watch a nature documentary, read material that enhances your awareness of the natural world, volunteer with a non-governmental organization, upcycle old items, or recycle leftover food. Engage in any activity that positively impacts the planet.

The next seven years are crucial for the future of all of us. To avoid irreversible damage to our planet, we need to stay below the 1.5°C global warming threshold and reverse ecosystem destruction by 2030. This requires urgent collective effort from individuals, communities, businesses, and governments.
