The Sustainable Living Film Days (SYFG), organized by Kapadokya University’s Center for Environmental Humanities with support from Movies that Matter and UNDP Türkiye, featuring 12 documentaries from the Sustainable Living Film Festival selection, was held online at surdurulebiliryasam.net between February 4-7, 2021, and has now concluded.
SYFG brought together not only students and academics but also participants from local governments, the public and private sectors, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, and especially residents of Cappadocia who were interested in sustainability issues.
The program included 12 documentaries that addressed human rights issues by examining the relationship between ecological and social problems through a sustainability perspective, offering a more comprehensive viewpoint. Following the documentaries, 6 different panel discussions were broadcast live on Kapadokya University’s YouTube channel. The post-screening discussions featured: Prof. Dr. Nüzhet Dalfes, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arda Borlu from Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Ceyhan Temürcü from Four Seasons Ecological Life Association, Dr. Önder Çetin from Ege University Department of English Language and Literature, Dr. Yeşim Bekyürek from Cappadocia Organic Agriculture Producers Association, and members of the Sustainable Fashion Platform.
The SYFG selection consisted of documentaries that holistically addressed many fundamental issues – from basic health services to child labor and child slavery, from responsible supply chains in food and textile sectors to conflict and war, from climate change to energy problems, from water access rights to toxic-free food access – while inspiring with creative solutions. The films revealed the relationship between ecological and social systems and also presented the impactful social initiatives of solution-oriented individuals.
