The future of the tourism sector and the road map to be followed were discussed in the panel organized about the effects of the climate crisis on tourism and the importance of sustainable tourism.
Prof. Dr. Levent Kurnaz, Director of Boğaziçi University Climate Change and Policy Research Center, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Bahar, Head of the Sustainable Tourism Program, Başak Erel, CEO of Erel & Co Tourism Consultancy, Architect and Industrial Diver Ali Enes Edis, attended the ‘Climate Crisis and Sustainable Tourism Panel’ organized by Marmaris Chamber of Commerce. In the panel where experts serving in different fields of tourism contributed, the effects of the climate crisis on Marmaris and tourism, the solutions offered by the sustainable tourism program to the climate crisis, the state of the sea in Marmaris bays, the fight against invasive species in the waters and the importance of sustainability in tourism trends were discussed.
Our Head of Sustainable Tourism Program Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Bahar reminded us that we are a member of the United Nations Higher Education Sustainability Initiative Network (HESI) and gave information about sustainable tourism, Turkey’s sustainable tourism program, and Cappadocia University’s role and training.
