The project proposal titled “Connect 4 Environmental Sustainability in Film and the Media” of our University’s Environmental Humanities Application and Research Center has been awarded a grant from the British Council’s Going Global Partnerships program Connect4Innovation: UK-Turkey Higher Education Institutional Partnerships Fund. The grant program, which selected only three institutions from Turkey, encourages universities and education stakeholders worldwide to unite for more vigorous, equitable, inclusive, and internationally connected higher education, science, technical, and vocational training.
From Cappadocia University Environmental Humanities Application and Research Center, Dr. Assist. Prof. Dr. Ekin Gündüz Özdemirci and Assoc. Assist. The project, prepared by Nurten Bayraktar, aims to disseminate sustainability practices in the film and media sector and to raise awareness of the climate crisis. The project, which we applied as the executive institution with the privilege of being Turkey’s first and only Environmentalist Humanities Application and Research Center, will be carried out in partnership with the Brunel University of London, one of the training partners of the BAFTA Albert consortium, which is a pioneer in the field of film and sustainability in the world, in cooperation with YAPIMLAB, the training and consultancy platform founded by producer Zeynep Atakan, and Atlantik Film, the production company of director Reha Erdem, who carried out sustainable practices during the shooting of his last film Neandria.
The project includes designing training modules on film and sustainability for students, educators, and industry professionals and developing sustainability guides for the Turkish film industry. The Turkish resources, developed with educators and industry professionals, will be published as EkoFilm: Sustainable Production Platform, which will soon be launched on the website.
The project, which is planned to last approximately two years, aims to develop a culture of environmental awareness and responsibility among current and future film professionals and promote environmentally friendly filmmaking practices.
