Project Summary | This research project, conducted by the Kapadokya University Center for Social and Strategic Studies Application and Research, examines the feasibility and potential for sustainability certification of public institutions in Turkey, primarily libraries and museums. The project investigates the opportunities and challenges of implementing sustainable practices in these cultural institutions and seeks to contribute to advancing sustainable development efforts. Additionally, the project aims to fill the gap in academic studies regarding applying sustainability principles to museums and libraries, providing practical knowledge and recommendations for policymakers, cultural managers, and stakeholders in the tourism and culture sectors. Ultimately, the project aims to promote a more environmentally, socially, and economically responsible approach to museum and library management, leading the way in supporting the implementation of the United Nations’ sustainable development goals in Turkey. This project examines the sustainability certification journeys of the Rami Library, which holds Turkey’s first Biosphere Sustainable Museum Certificate, and the İzmir Culture and Art Factory, which also has the same certification. The project seeks to provide the necessary academic and technical support to ensure these institutions fully align with sustainability principles in every aspect. The goal is to create a Sustainability Plan for museums and libraries, inspired by the examples of the Rami Library and the İzmir Culture and Art Factory, and to ensure long-term sustainability. |
