Our website, iklim.kapadokya.edu.tr, is now live. It aims to make the climate crisis more understandable for different audiences and raise awareness of the issue. The site features engaging infographics written in simple language and containing reliable information.
The website was created as part of the Climate Crisis Awareness Database Project, carried out under our university’s Center for Environmental Humanities and supported by our Scientific Research Projects (BAP) Office. The project was led by Dr. Ekin Gündüz Özdemirci, with the research team including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinan Akıllı, Dr. Fatma Aykanat, and Research Assistant Nurten Bayraktar. The project advisors were Dr. Nuran Talu and Prof. Dr. Nüzhet Dalfes. The Turkish translations of the infographics used on the website were done by Lecturer Şulenur Bilgin and Lecturer Cenk Takım, while Buse Altun managed the design process.
In the project’s first phase, which lasted approximately one year, scientific sources on selected topics related to the climate crisis were reviewed, and the chosen infographics were translated into Turkish. A total of 95 infographics, based on research from sources such as the European Environment Agency, European Parliament, United Nations Environment Programme, Food and Agriculture Organization, World Health Organization, UNICEF, UNESCO, NASA, World Resources Institute, National Geographic, and WWF International, were translated into Turkish and made accessible. These infographics, or information graphics, visually present data and information, making the causes, consequences, future projections, solution proposals, and current practices related to the climate crisis understandable for all audiences.
The website, which is open to everyone, organizes infographics under the headings “Causes of the Climate Crisis,” “Dangers of the Climate Crisis,” “Areas of Intervention,” “Practices,” “Core Values and Leverages,” and “Future Projections.” It provides information that secondary and higher education institutions, public and private organizations, non-governmental organizations in Turkey, and the general public can utilize.
The Climate Crisis Awareness website, launched at a time when the fight against the climate crisis is a priority in education, the public, and the private sectors, facilitates the rapid and easy dissemination of relevant information and aims to raise awareness on these issues.
