UNESCO’s New Program, in Which Our University is Among the Founders, is Being Implemented

The “UNESCO-MOST/BRIDGES Sustainability Science Coalition”, in which our university’s Center for Environmental Humanities has been participating as Turkey’s sole representative in its establishment efforts since 2019, was approved as a new UNESCO program during the 15th Regular Session of the UNESCO-MOST (Management of Social Transformations) Intergovernmental Council held on March 30-31, 2021.

The BRIDGES program aims to bring together diverse knowledge and action communities through project-based studies and to implement the activities outlined in the UNESCO Sustainability Science Guide, which was developed in alignment with the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The program targets activating the capacities of higher education and research institutions as primary hubs for transdisciplinary efforts, carried out in collaboration with international science councils, intergovernmental science programs, research-education networks, and key local partners from the public, private sectors, and civil society.

The General Assembly meeting of the UNESCO-MOST/BRIDGES program, for which Kapadokya University hosted the final preparatory workshop on July 6-7, 2020, before the official application to UNESCO in September 2020, is planned to take place in the coming weeks.
