The results of the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025, for which our university applied for the first time, were announced on June 18, 2025. 2,526 universities from 130 different countries applied and were evaluated based on their work within the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 108 state and foundation universities from Turkey were included in the 2025 Impact Rankings.
The results of the THE Impact Rankings 2025 were shared with the public on June 18, 2025, as part of the Global Sustainable Development Congress, hosted by Times Higher Education, a leading international higher education ranking organization, and the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) in Istanbul from June 16-19, 2025. Phil Baty, THE Global Relations Director and opening speaker at the congress, emphasized that Turkey was the third country with the highest number of universities applying for this ranking. He thanked YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar and all Turkish university representatives present at the opening ceremony for this support from Turkish universities. Our university was represented at the congress by our Sustainability Commission Chair, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinan Akıllı, and our Sustainability Office Coordinator, Dr. Selda Öztürk.
In accordance with the THE ranking system’s methodology, our university submitted its application using sustainability performance data for the 2022-2023 academic year. Based on the overall ranking score determined by SDG 17 “Partnerships for the Goals,” it was ranked in the 1001-1500 band in the global rankings.
Four of the Turkish universities participating in the rankings were in the top 100, and 45 were in the top 1000. Twenty-seven universities, including our university, were ranked in the 1001-1500 range, while 36 Turkish universities were ranked in the 1500+ range.
Our university achieved its highest score in the global rankings in SDG 12, “Responsible Production and Consumption,” ranking in the 301-400 range. Our university also achieved its second-highest score in SDG 3, “Health and Quality of Life,” and was ranked in the 401-600 range in SDG 11, “Sustainable Cities and Communities,” and SDG 13, “Climate Action.” Our scores for the other SDGs also demonstrated that we are carrying out significant, internationally recognized work toward all of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
