The Earth Day movement, which began in 2007 with the initiative of WWF-World Wildlife Fund, was known for the “turn off the lights” action, where people around the world turned off their lights to symbolically show support for the planet and to draw attention to environmental problems.
This year, Earth Day invites everyone to show symbolic support by turning off their lights and to spend 1 hour doing something that will have a positive impact on the planet.
You can spend 1 hour on an action that will have a positive impact on the planet, such as a walk or a trip where you can observe and connect with the natural environment, watching a nature documentary, reading a text that will increase your awareness of the natural environment, volunteering at a civil society organization, reusing old items through upcycling, or using leftover food.
The next 7 years are extremely important for the future of all of us – In order not to cause irreversible damage to our planet, we must stay below the 1.5°C global warming threshold and reverse ecosystem destruction by 2030. For this to happen, individuals, communities, businesses and governments urgently need to work together in a collective effort.
